309. The Chairperson informed the Council that on 11 December 2001, China had become the 143rd Member of the WTO. Paragraph 1.2 of its Protocol of Accession (WT/L/432) incorporated a number of commitments specific to the TRIPS Agreement contained in the Report of the Working Party on the Accession of China (WT/ACC/CHN/49) (paragraphs 252, 256, 259, 263, 265, 270, 275, 284, 286, 288, 291, 292, 296, 299, 302, and 304-305). These included a confirmation that, upon accession, China would fully apply the provisions of the TRIPS Agreement (paragraph 305). 310. Continuing, he informed the Council that on 1 January 2002, Chinese Taipei had become the 144th Member. Paragraph 1.2 of its Protocol of Accession (WT/L/433) incorporated a number of commitments specific to the TRIPS Agreement contained in the Report of the Working Party on the Accession of Chinese Taipei (WT/ACC/TPKM/18) (paragraphs 187, 198, 207, 208 and 209). These included a commitment that Chinese Taipei would fully apply the provisions of the TRIPS Agreement by the date of accession, without recourse to any transitional period (paragraph 209).
