On the issue of the status of acceptances of the Protocol Amending the TRIPS Agreement that was done at Geneva on 6 December 2005, the Chairman recalled that, at its last meeting, the Council had requested the Secretariat to prepare a note on the status of acceptances of the Protocol, which would be updated for each meeting of the Council. Accordingly, this note had been circulated in document JOB(07/)/13. Since the Council's last meeting, Korea had deposited its instrument of acceptance (WT/Let/558) on 24 January. Furthermore, since the circulation of the note, Norway had accepted the Protocol on 5 February (WT/Let/563). Thus, so far, five Members had accepted the Protocol. He recalled that the Protocol was open for acceptance by Members until 1 December 2007 or such later date as might be decided by the Ministerial Conference. As this date was less than ten months away, he encouraged Members to ensure that necessary measures were being taken in their respective capitals to allow the consideration of the acceptance in a timely fashion. He said that the Secretariat would update the note on the status of acceptances of the Protocol periodically.
