5. Statement/summary of statement

365. The Chairman said that, since the Council's meeting in June 2012, two new Members had joined the WTO. The Russian Federation had become the 156th Member of the WTO on 22 August 2012,1 and Vanuatu the 157th Member on 24 August 2012.2 366. Furthermore, at its meeting of 26 October 2012, the General Council had approved the accession package of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. In keeping with WTO provisions, Laos would become a Member 30 days following the date of the ratification of its protocol of accession.3
