New Plant Variety Protection Law (Law No.15/2016 of January 20,2016)

6. Brief description

The New Plant Variety Protection Law was enacted by Pyidaungsu Hluttaw with the Law No.15/2016 dated 20 January 2016. The objectives of this Law in line with 1991 UPOV Convention are: (a) to protect of the rights of breeders of new plant varieties (b) to develop the activities of plant breeding (c) to encourage investments in and development of the breeding of new plant varieties in both public and private sectors (d) to assist the agricultural sector development by producing and cultivation of the new improved varieties The Law grants the plant breeder right to: 1) National plant breeders; 2) Plant breeders that are foreigners permanently residing in Myanmar and their organizations; 3) All organizations and individuals of new plant breeding from trading partners that have entered into an agreement with Myanmar on the protection of a new plant variety
