United Kingdom
Digital Economy Act 2017
The Act contains a number of intellectual property measures to support creative industries. It extends on the provisions within the Digital Economy Act 2010 on Public lending right to e-books. This Act extended this to include remote access to e-books and not limit it to just access on the library premises. The Act extends criminal sanctions for online infringement to a maximum of ten years. Repeals s.73 which provided for an exception for cable platforms, from paying copyright licence fees to retransmit the core public service broadcaster channels. Amends the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1998 in relation to criminal sanctions for online copyright infringement.
