N TECHNICAL COOPERATION AND CAPACITY-BUILDING
299. The Chairperson recalled that the Council's meeting in September 2001 had had a special focus on technical cooperation and, in that context, developed country Members had provided their annual updates of information on their technical cooperation activities (IP/C/W/306 and addenda). Information on technical cooperation activities had also been obtained from a number of intergovernmental organizations observers to the TRIPS Council (IP/C/W/305 and addenda) and the WTO Secretariat (IP/C/W/304). It had been agreed, as in previous years, that Members be provided an opportunity to make further comments on these annual reports at the present meeting. Furthermore, he recalled that the WIPO and WTO Secretariats had launched on 14 June 2001 a Joint Initiative on Technical Cooperation for Least-Developed Countries. He invited the two Secretariats to update the Council on this Joint Initiative.
