226. The Chairman said that, at this stage, there did not appear to be a consensus on the proposals by the LDCs and the African Group. Given that some delegations had expressed willingness to engage in consultations at least on the African proposal, he suggested that the Council revert to the matter later in the course of the present meeting.
227. Reverting to the matter later in the course of the meeting, the representative of Kenya said that his delegation and some others from the African Group had met with the delegation of the United States to discuss the African proposal. The African Group would still need to consider whether it could agree on the text proposed by the United States. He asked that the issue be put on hold for a few more days so as to allow them more time to reach a solution.
