279. The representative of the European Communities thanked China for updating the TRIPS Council on its efforts to improve IP protection in China. He said that his delegation was taking note with satisfaction of the progress that had been made so far and of positive on-going initiatives to tackle the problems. However, the European Communities remained concerned by the level of counterfeiting in China and urged China to continue its efforts towards an effective IP enforcement system. In this respect, his delegation was committed to working with the Chinese authorities to improve the situation. With regard to the questions that had been submitted very recently by his delegation, he said that his delegation would appreciate it if China could respond to them as soon as possible.
