Ambassador Choi Hyuck (Korea)
G DECISION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PARAGRAPH 6 OF THE DOHA DECLARATION ON THE TRIPS AGREEMENT AND PUBLIC HEALTH
197. The representative of Norway referred to the fact that, more than two years after the adoption of the Decision, there was still no agreement on the amendment to the TRIPS Agreement. Although there should be no question as to the legal basis for the implementation of the Decision, only a few Members had implemented the Decision into national law. This was disappointing considering the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS and other pandemics on public health and economic development, and the need to ensure that the TRIPS Agreement did not represent an obstacle to access to affordable medicines. She urged interested delegations to bridge the remaining gaps in time to deliver an amendment to the TRIPS Agreement at the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference. Her delegation stood ready to provide any assistance in this process.
