Ambassador Karen Tan (Singapore)
European Union
L TECHNICAL COOPERATION AND CAPACITY BUILDING
208. The representative of the European Communities said that his delegation had indicated that it was ready to look in a positive spirit into the LDCs submissions on individual priority needs for technical assistance and financial cooperation and it would submit its report in the coming days. So far only two LDCs, Uganda and Sierra Leone, had submitted their individual needs. His delegation had been in contact with these two countries on how to assist them. He confirmed that the European Communities had agreed to support a number of activities identified by Uganda and several of these activities had already been launched. It had also been working with Sierra Leone and hoped to be able to provide shortly the same kind of assistance and support to it. He stood ready to consider any new submissions of priority needs and encouraged LDCs as well as other developed country Members to contribute to this important process. Finally, he welcomed the informal Workshop on the LDC needs assessment process in which his delegation would participate.
