Ambassador Karen Tan (Singapore)
J TECHNICAL COOPERATION AND CAPACITY BUILDING
118. The representative of Zambia said she appreciated the fact that the Secretariat had been able to swiftly respond to the request her delegation had made. It was clear that gaps remained in terms of ensuring that LDCs carried out their needs assessments, bearing in mind that the 2013 deadline was approaching fast. Apart from workshops and seminars, it would be useful to have country-specific missions so that, by 2013, individual countries would have had an opportunity to identify their needs and to request the necessary implementation capacity and technical assistance. It was important to ensure that the needs assessment process not only led to TRIPS compliance, but also fostered the development objectives of individual LDCs.
