Ambassador Karen Tan (Singapore)
K LETTER FROM THE CHAIR OF THE GENERAL COUNCIL CONCERNING WAYS TO IMPROVE THE TIMELINESS AND COMPLETENESS OF NOTIFICATIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION FLOWS
135. The Chairperson recalled that, at its meetings in June and October 2009, the Council had had on its agenda the letter from the Chair of the General Council concerning ways to improve the timeliness and completeness of notifications and other information flows in the TRIPS Council's area of responsibility. In order to facilitate the Council's consideration of this issue, the Secretariat had presented at the October meeting a factual background note (IP/C/W/543), prepared at the Council's request, that summarized the relevant procedures and provided information on the use of those procedures, as well as containing suggestions on how to improve the transparency and user-friendliness of the notification system. Those delegations which spoke on this issue had supported the suggestions contained in that note to improve the transparency of the system, for example by making notifications more easily accessible on the WTO webpage. The Secretariat had been encouraged to pursue this task and had been requested to report on any developments to the present meeting.
