The Chairman said that this item had been put on the agenda at the written request by the delegation of the United States, and that a communication from the United States entitled "Securing Supply Chains against Counterfeit Goods" had been circulated in document IP/C/W/570. In addition, the Council had received a communication from Japan entitled "Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights" that Japan intended to present under this item. The document provided an updated version of an earlier communication, document IP/C/W/501 dated 8 October 2007, and had been circulated in document IP/C/W/571.
