5.49. The Chairman said that he would convey the appeal by Nigeria on behalf of the African Group and China to the Director-General to resume his consultations. As to the request that the WIPO Secretariat brief the Council on the on on-going work of the WIPO IGC, he noted that, as an observer in the Council, the WIPO Secretariat could request the floor whenever it deemed necessary. He suggested that the Council request the Chair to continue consulting on the suggestions that the CBD Secretariat be invited to brief the Council on the outcome of the Nagoya meeting, and that the Secretariat be requested to update the three factual notes that summarize the points delegations have made in the Council's past discussions on the three agenda items.
