H.E. Ambassador Xolelwa Mlumbi-Peter
13 INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND THE 1998 WORK PROGRAMME ON ELECTRONIC COMMERCE

392.   The delegation of Zimbabwe extends its appreciation to the delegation of South Africa for the submission of document IP/C/W/665 on "Operationalizing Technology Transfer in the Context of Articles 7, 8, 40 and 66.2 of the TRIPS Agreement". 393.   Zimbabwe believes that the emergence of the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) makes it incumbent upon us to resuscitate a conversation on intellectual property (IP) in ecommerce. The emergence of new technologies has added a new dimension to the world of IP, particularly in artificial intelligence, blockchain, and digitalization. 394.   The only way in which we can face the existential threats we face in climate change, health and other hazards is to harness technology for our common benefit. 395.   We support the proposal to restore on the agenda of the Council the agenda item on "Intellectual Property and the 1998 Work Programme on Electronic Commerce".

The Council took note of the statements made.
