11 INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND INNOVATION: SUMMARY ON THE 2020 THEME – MAKING MICRO SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTREPRISES (MSMES) COMPETITIVE THROUGH IP AND INNOVATION

119.   We would like to thank the proponents for their submission, which summarizes discussions held under the macro topic of "Making MSMEs competitive through IP and Innovation". Discussions have shed light not only on the difficulties many MSMEs have faced in using IP as tool for their businesses but also on the several programmes developed by Members to support their MSMEs. 120.   These were very insightful discussions. It was very interesting to learn other Members experiences and share a bit of what Brazil has been doing to help MSMEs benefit from the IP system. We look forward to more discussions on this issue in the near future.

48. The Chair recalled that this item had been put on the agenda at the request of Australia, Canada, the European Union, Japan, Switzerland, Chinese Taipei, and the United States. A communication had also been circulated in documents IP/C/W678 and IP/C/W/678/Rev.1. Since the circulation of the document, the United Kingdom, Chile and Singapore had also co-sponsored this item and the corresponding documents.
