The Chairman recalled that, at the meeting in July, the delegation of the United States had raised the issue of revocation of patents and how the obligations under the TRIPS Agreement related to this issue, in particular since the issue had been raised in other bodies of the WTO. Various delegations had given their preliminary reactions to the statement made by the United States and the Council had agreed to place the item on the agenda for today's meeting. The United States had submitted a summary of its statement, which had been distributed to Members in document IP/C/W/32.
