The representative of the United States reiterated his delegation's understanding that notifications made under Article 4(d) would be reviewed by the notifying Members in question, pursuant to discussions in the Council, and that Members would revert to this topic again at the September meeting. His delegation had emphasized on many occasions the need for notifications under Article 4(d) to be precise and clear as to the exceptions to MFN treatment concerned. Many of the notifications made did not meet this qualification.
