Ambassador Carmen Luz Guarda (Chile)
G.i Review of the application of the provisions of the section on geographical indications under Article 24.2
55. The representative of Hungary welcomed the contributions from the European Communities and Switzerland. He said that, at the Council meeting of 27 February 1997, it had been agreed that the Council would address the issue of reviewing the application of the provisions on geographical indications under Article 24.2 early this year, while delegations had also been urged to provide, in the context of Article 23.4, specific information on their relevant national registration systems. Turning to the non-paper that his delegation had submitted, he said that a table had been prepared in which the provisions of the Hungarian law had been categorized on the basis of the provisions of the Agreement to which they corresponded. His delegation also supported the idea that the Secretariat prepare a comprehensive, comparative table, preferably prior to the next meeting of the Council.
