Brief description of implementation of Article 66.2

The Czech Republic provides financial incentives to the enterprises and institutions in its territory in order to promote and encourage technology transfer to least-developed country Members in the wider framework of its development cooperation. Selected projects with technology and know-how transfer component, developed in cooperation with the beneficiaries, are listed below.

Objective or purpose

The project in its initial phase supports preparing project documentation for the wastewater drainage and treatment system in the Koh Rong Island in Sihanoukville province, in order to deal with increasing environmental problem in a remote and fragile location. It is a first step towards developing a holistic, functional system. Preventing the discharge of raw, untreated sewage into the sea is expected to contribute to the improvement of the island environment, as well as to new economic opportutinities (i.e. tourism). The project would introduce European standards of quality to the area. The project cooperates closely with Koh Rong municipality and by transfering know-how, it provides opportunity for further develop the island location in a sustainable way.

Objective or purpose

The project focuses on the preparation of project documentation for the construction of hospital waste treatment facility in a large regional hospital in Bahir Dar, Amhara State, Ethiopia. In addition, it should be a basis for launching a public tender for supplying and installation of the facility by the beneficiary, and for discussions with the international financial institutions and other donors. The project should ultimately lead to stopping ongoing pollution of the environment by the infected hospital waste, as well as to providing better public services by the largest hospital in Amhara State, improvement of its energy efficiency and transfer of innovative know-how in the area of hospital waste management.
