The representative of the Czech Republic said that the purpose of the negotiation and registration system, i.e., the facilitation of the protection of geographical indications, related closely to all other issues. Effective facilitation could not be achieved without clearly setting out the legal effects for all participating Members, and it was also indispensable that obligations for non-participants be clarified.
