Ambassador C. Trevor Clarke (Barbados)
B.i Meeting of 23 October 2009, p.m.
69. The representative of Switzerland said that, in response to the Chair's third question, and in particular the idea of developing criteria for solutions between voluntary and mandatory participation, her delegation supported Barbados in that the register should apply to all Members, because all needed this system for GI protection as a TRIPS obligation. For Switzerland, the obligation of taking into account the information contained in the register should apply to all WTO Members, but only Members wishing to do so would notify their GIs to the register. 70. On the Chair's fourth question, her delegation was of the view that Members should wait and see the final form of the register in order to decide what kind of special and differential treatment measures should be included.
