3. The Chairman said that he would seek to ensure progress and hoped to build on the achievements of his predecessors towards an outcome that was acceptable to all delegations. He was thankful to Ambassador Trevor Clarke for his efforts and inspiration in taking the work of the Special Session forward in a positive and constructive spirit and for his masterly report that took note of the progress achieved and would serve as a basis for further developments. The Chairman also expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Karen Tan (Singapore) for her dedication in chairing the Special Session as pro tempore Chair following the departure of Ambassador Clarke.
