C.3.b.i Procedures
78. The representative of the European Communities, responding to Argentina's first question about the bilateral consultations, said that it could last from five minutes to five years. In other words, it depended on the goodwill of the parties in trying to reach a settlement or solution to improve protection. He added that negotiations undertaken outside the WTO depended on the goodwill of both parties. With respect to Argentina's second question on the effects of an opposition, he said that the country which opposed the notification, for example on the ground that the term was generic, could continue, during and after consultations and in the absence of any settlement, to use the generic name, if that were the situation under the opposing country's legislation.
