The representative of the European Communities said that the possibility of making oppositions was certainly not limited to countries producing a product under a generic name but to any country where the name was generic. That was the reality of the principle of territoriality which prevailed for all intellectual property rights. It was up to every country to decide whether a name was a generic or not. This was a matter of each WTO Member's sovereignty.
