Ambassador Choi Hyuck (Korea)
L ENFORCEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS – COMMUNICATION FROM THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES
125. The representative of Australia said that, as her delegation had just received the EC paper on border enforcement, it was unable to make any specific comments on it at that stage. Australia agreed that effective enforcement of IPRs was becoming an increasingly important issue, and acknowledged that enforcement was also being discussed in other forums, such as the WIPO Advisory Committee on Enforcement. Therefore, any discussion on this matter in the TRIPS Council should remain focused on the issues of relevance to the Council. Australia wished to receive further details of the original EC proposal outlined in document IP/C/W/448, particularly the scope and intended impact of any reviews, so that it could take a more informed position in that respect.
