Ambassador Gail Mathurin (Jamaica)
J.ii (ii) LDC priority needs for technical and financial cooperation
111. The representative of Brazil said that the presentation of priority needs by Uganda and Sierra Leone in such a structured and clear fashion was a welcome development. It was useful that both documents followed a similar structure, with similar issues and outlines of the programme planning matrix. There was, on the other hand, room for improvement in the way that developed countries had been presenting and circulating information on the technical assistance that they provide to LDCs. The communications from Uganda and Sierra Leone set an example to be followed by developed countries. Reports from developed countries both under Articles 67 66.2 should follow a more consistent pattern in their presentation with a view to reaching a more consistent and harmonized method of sharing the information. This would make the whole exercise more useful for Members allowing them to better understand, compare and assess the different types of assistance provided by Members.
