Mr. Martin Glass (Hong Kong, China)
N OBSERVER STATUS FOR INTERNATIONAL INTERGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS
409. The Chairman said that the Secretariat had circulated an updated list of the pending requests for observer status in the TRIPS Council by other intergovernmental organizations in document IP/C/W/52/Rev.12. At its meeting in June 2009, the Council had granted ARIPO and OAPI ad hoc observer status on a meeting-by-meeting basis, and they had accordingly been deleted from the list. There were now 15 pending requests. The updated list also took into account two name changes since the list had been last circulated in 2005, namely the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute had changed its name into Bioversity International, and the International Office of Vine and Wine was now called the International Organisation of Vine and Wine. At its last meeting, the Council had requested him to continue his consultations on the request for observer status from the CBD Secretariat. A proposal on the table was that it be granted ad hoc observer status on a meeting by meeting basis. He had been in touch with some of the delegations most interested in this matter but, unfortunately, he was not in a position to report any developments in their thinking concerning this request.
