Ambassador Dacio Castillo (Honduras)
11 TECHNICAL CO-OPERATION AND CAPACITY BUILDING
229. The representative of Australia welcomed the Symposium that had allowed her delegation to share details of Australia's technical cooperation and capacity building. In its report to the Council, Australia had provided detailed information on its technical co-operation with developing countries and LDCs to assist them to develop their IP regimes and to build capacity in a range of IP-related areas. Australia had fulfilled its obligations under Article 67 through multilateral, regional and bilateral programmes and activities. Many of these were focused in the Asia-Pacific region. A particular highlight this year was $A2 million donated to WIPO to assist LDCs and developing countries to improve their IP systems. As from 2012, Australia was also increasing its IP engagement with Africa, including through cooperation with the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) and South Africa.
