C.i Notifications under Article 63.2
27. The representative of Japan drew the attention of the Council to the road map which had been prepared by his delegation and which would shortly be circulated to Members. He believed that this road map would provide useful information on the correspondence between the provisions of the TRIPS Agreement and the provisions of Japanese laws and regulations. Without such a road map, the TRIPS Council might have difficulties in examining whether the Japanese laws and regulations complied with each provision of the TRIPS Agreement. If the TRIPS Council found it useful and necessary, after reviewing Japan's laws and regulations at the November meeting, his delegation would suggest that other Members follow the same approach, even though it was obligatory to provide such a road map. Of course, the preparation of a road map required time and energy, but seemed to be justified by the time and energy gained in reviewing other Members' laws and regulations.
