Ambassador Boniface Chidyausiku (Zimbabwe)
N TECHNICAL COOPERATION AND CAPACITY-BUILDING
304. The representative of Brazil supported the point made by the European Communities about the need to address public interest issues in the implementation of the TRIPS Agreement. Implementation covered not only Members' obligations but also their rights and their need to make use of the flexibility allowed under the Agreement. He strongly urged the WTO and WIPO Secretariats to emphasize strongly the points about public health and biodiversity in discussions of implementation of the TRIPS Agreement. Supporting the statement by Brazil, the representative of Peru said that technical cooperation was important and should cover subjects of great importance for developing countries, such as traditional knowledge.
