228. The representative of the United States thanked the African Group for meeting with his delegation and for working in a constructive manner on the counter-proposal that was put forward by a number of delegations. He hoped that they could work something out in the near future.
229. Noting that the Council was not in a position to conclude its work on these matters during the present meeting, the Chairman encouraged Members to continue their mutual dialogue on the matter and to report back to him. He suggested that the Council authorize him to report on the further consultations to the General Council in advance of its meeting of 24 July on his own responsibility, i.e. without the need to call another formal meeting of the Council, it being understood that all Members would have an opportunity to participate in the formulation of his report.
