The representative of the European Communities said that his delegation was in principle ready to look sympathetically at an extension of the transition period under Article 66.1 of the TRIPS Agreement for a certain period of time but, as it had received the request only one week before, it was still in the process of looking into it. He invited delegations to make positive contributions to future discussions on this matter, including the concerns raised by the United States and Japan.
