Ambassador Choi Hyuck (Korea)
O TECHNICAL COOPERATION AND CAPACITY-BUILDING
308. The representative of Australia said that his delegation had put forward a document that set out in quite extensive detail the technical cooperation activities that Australia had conducted in a range of areas. It showed that Australia was committed to assisting developing countries across a range of areas to better understand forms of IP protection, costs and benefits. In that context it had also held some discussions with India and others about Australia's own experiences and explaining the approach Australia had taken to GIs and other forms of protection, such as trademark protection. He did not believe that Australia was the only Member that had undertaken this type of activity and said that attempts to discuss its positions should not be mischaracterized.
