151. The Chairman said that, by means of a communication dated 10 April 2007, the United States had requested consultations with China regarding measures affecting the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights (IP/D/26). The following Members had requested to join these consultations: Japan, the European Communities, Canada and Mexico (WT/DS362/2-5). 152. Turning to the status of acceptances of the Protocol Amending the TRIPS Agreement that was done at Geneva on 6 December 2005, the Chairman said that since the Council meeting held in February 2007 the following Members had deposited their instruments of acceptance: India on 26 March, and the Philippines on 30 March; (documents WT/Let/572 and 573, respectively). As of then, 7 Members had accepted the Protocol. The Secretariat had circulated an update to the note on the status of acceptances of the Protocol that the Council had requested it to prepare at its meeting in October (IP/C/W/490). As had been indicated by the previous Chairman, the Secretariat would continue to update it periodically. The Chairman recalled that the Protocol was open for acceptance by Members until 1 December 2007 or such later date as might be decided by the Ministerial Conference. As this date was less than six months away, he encouraged Members to ensure that necessary measures were being taken in their capitals to allow the consideration of the acceptance in a timely fashion.
