The representative of South Africa referred to the close involvement of his delegation in the negotiations leading to the Doha Declaration on the TRIPS Agreement and Public Health, as well as on the 30 August 2003 Decision. Those instruments were critical to the interests of developing countries, in particular the poor and most vulnerable ones. He shared the concerns of other delegations about the limited use of the Paragraph 6 System over the past five years. His delegation supported the proposal that the system be reviewed in order to identify, as well as address any obstacles impeding the achievement of the objectives for which it was designed.
