The Chairperson recalled that section 18 of China's Protocol on Accession required the TRIPS Council to review the implementation by China of the TRIPS Agreement each year for eight years and report the results of such review promptly to the General Council. She further recalled that section 18 required China to provide relevant information, including information specified in Annex 1A, to the TRIPS Council in advance of the review. She informed the Council that the information submitted by China pursuant to that requirement, dated 21 October 2009, had been circulated as document IP/C/W/542. Questions and comments in connection with the transitional review had been submitted by Japan, the United States and the European Communities (documents IP/C/W/537, 538 and 540, respectively).
