Mr. S. Harbinson (Hong Kong)
C.2.i Procedures for giving effect to the obligation to notify implementing legislation under Article 63.2
26. The representative of Turkey informed the Council about the latest developments in his country concerning the protection of intellectual property. On the basis of an analysis of the legislative changes completed in Turkey in the past six months, including the accession to international conventions in the area of intellectual property, and in the light of the progress made in that area over the past 110 years, it could easily be said that 1995 was a revolutionary year in Turkey for the protection of intellectual property. Since the previous meeting of the Council, Turkey had amended its laws on patents, trademarks, geographical indications and industrial designs, and had brought them fully into conformity with the requirements of the TRIPS Agreement and related intellectual property agreements, such as the Nice, Vienna and Strasbourg Agreements, the Patent Cooperation Treaty and the Berne Convention. All this progress would be notified to the Council shortly. English translations of the laws in question had already been prepared, while those of the implementing regulations would be available soon. Also a checklist would be prepared and submitted to the Council for the analysis of all of these developments.
