C Notifications under Article 4(d)
18. The representative of the United States expressed the hope that the Council could agree that notifications under Article 4(d) must be specific rather than general and should avoid including those multilateral treaties that had been incorporated by reference into the TRIPS Agreement. He also hoped that those Members that had sent in overgeneralized notifications under Article 4(d) would submit revisions to those notifications, that reflected the considerations set forth in the Chairman's background note. Revisions to these notifications were necessary to permit Members to identify and assess the provisions that the notifying Member hoped to justify as an exception to most-favoured-nation treatment under the terms of Article 4(d). His delegation was interested in hearing from other Members as to the status of their efforts to revise their original notifications under Article 4(d) in this manner.
