The representative of the United States said that Members had been invited by the Council to provide advance notice of any follow-up questions by the end of January 1997 (document IP/C/M/11, paragraph 15) so as to allow enough time for delegations to prepare responses prior to the present meeting. Unfortunately, his delegation had received some of the questions only the week before the meeting and others just prior to the meeting and was not in a position to provide its responses at this time, but would do so in writing shortly so that they could be circulated in advance of the next meeting. Similarly, the representatives of Canada and Australia said that they had just received the questions posed to them and would provide responses in due course.
