The representative of the European Communities said that it was interesting to hear from a delegation which had co-sponsored one of the proposals that, in fact, the international registration of GIs would not bind the national authorities. He would pass the information to his producers that whether they notified a GI or not, it was uncertain whether anyone else would have a label refused in the United States even if it was bearing that GI.
