The Chairman said that, at its meeting of 12 October 2006, the General Council had agreed to the recommendations and understandings contained in paragraph 6 of a report from the Dedicated Session of the Committee on Trade and Development (WT/COMTD/SE/5) under which small economies would be allowed to use regional bodies to assist them in the implementation of their obligations under the TRIPS Agreement, as well as under SPS and TBT Agreements, and Members and the WTO – when providing technical and financial assistance to support small, vulnerable economies in fulfilling their rights and obligations under these agreements – would consider the advantages of providing that assistance to a regional body where one existed.
