The Chairperson recalled that the delegation of Japan, in February, had posed a question to the delegation of Ireland in relation to a response given by the Government of Ireland in the context of the review of legislation that the Council had undertaken in the area of copyright and related rights at its meeting in July 1996. The Secretariat had not yet received an answer from Ireland to this question posed by Japan. At the previous meeting, in May, the European Communities and their member States had said that the reply could be expected very shortly.
