The representative of Guatemala informed Members that her country had presented a detailed request for technical assistance in the context of the WIPO-WTO Joint Initiative on Technical Cooperation, and attached to it a work programme which contained various points ranging from the training of judges, magistrates, public prosecutors and lawyers to a request for assistance with the drafting of legislation that Guatemala had to enact to comply with its obligations under the TRIPS Agreement. Her delegation had already held a meeting with the Secretariats of WIPO and the WTO about the type of assistance that could be provided to contribute to the efforts that Guatemala was undertaking to fulfil precisely in the time permitted the obligations which derived from the TRIPS Agreement.
