88. The representative of India said that his delegation was still scrutinizing the European Communities proposal. A number of ideas that had emerged in the discussion, such as transparency, voluntary participation, no new obligations and no extra burden on domestic systems, were attractive and should govern any new system. As regards the issue of scope, divergent views expressed by Members necessitated a closer look at the Singapore Ministerial Declaration before coming to a conclusion as to the coverage of the work in this area. India had a strong interest in extending the additional protection to other products than wines and spirits.
