The representative of the United States said that his delegation continued to analyse the responses to the Checklist and found the information provided useful in assessing the status of protection and in educating United States businesses regarding the protection and enforcement of geographical indications around the world. His delegation had tried, in developing its proposal regarding Article 23.4 which would be discussed under the next agenda item, to take into account the full variety of legal regimes Members used for the protection of geographical indications, and had tried to ensure that its proposal did not favour any particular regime but could accommodate all those which had been reflected in the responses. His delegation urged Members which had not yet responded to the Checklist to do so, if possible, in order to create as complete a picture as possible of the protection for geographical indications throughout the world.
