6. Brief description
Amendment: 495/2008 Coll. of Laws of the Slovak Rep. Amendment: 125/2016 Coll. of Laws of the Slovak Rep. Amendment: 242/2017 Coll. of Laws of the Slovak Rep. (in force from 1 January 2018) Amendment: 242/2017 Coll. of Laws of the Slovak Rep. (in force from 1 January 2019) Amendment: 291/2018 Coll. of Laws of the Slovak Rep. Amendment: 55/2023 Coll. of Laws of the Slovak Rep. Utility model is a traditional national IP title connected with technical inventions. Unlike patents, utility models can be obtained in faster procedure, however without novelty and inventor step being examined ex officio before registration. The registration procedure allows for opposition before registration and for invalidity proceedings after registration. The Slovak law on utility models has been amended various times since 2007. These amendments focused on updates coming from the application of the procedural provision in the praxis, on strengthening the provisions dealing with employee regimes and on strengthening the enforcement of the rights.
