Canadian Patent Act, as amended by: Bill C-43, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures (the bill having received Royal Assent on December 12, 2014). Bill C-43 amends the Industrial Design Act and Patent Act. These amendments allow Canada to come into compliance with to two intellectual property treaties: the Hague Agreement and the Patent Law Treaty. The Patent Law Treaty aims to simplify and harmonize administrative practices among national patent offices with respect to the patent application process. The Hague Agreement allows for protection of industrial designs in a number of countries through a single international application filed with the International Bureau of WIPO. The coming into force date of the changes will be established in the new Industrial Design Regulations and the Patent Rules, which are currently being drafted.
