This amendment brought about substantial changes to the Austrian Cartel Law. The most important concerned new rules for vertical agreements on distribution, an active legal standing for individuals and merger control.

With the entry into force of the EEA-Agreement on 10/01/1994 the EC competition rules became directly applicable in Austria. From that time on, the European Competition Authorities have been enforcing competition law as well as the national Cartel court.
