Bahrain, Kingdom of
We are pleased to inform you that the State of Bahrain already had an Industrial Property Law covering trademarks, patents and industrial designs, which was adopted in 1955, and amended in 1977. We then issued a new law covering trademarks in 1991. This law is adopting all the articles of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights with regard to trademarks. Bahrain also issued a new Copyright Law in 1993. Bahrain became a Member of WIPO and a signatory to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, and the Berne Agreement for the Protection of Copyright. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that Bahrain is adopting all the articles of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, because of its supremacy over our local laws. Also, we would like to inform you that we are arranging to issue new laws in the fields of industrial property and copyright. The new Industrial Property Law will cover new issues in accordance with the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, which were not adopted before in Bahrain.
